Dose of Prose
I tend to select more conservative pieces when I shop because I personally prefer the look and fit of looser, longer clothes over short and tight clothes. Sometimes I’ll purposely buy a size up to achieve the “oversized” look. Wearing oversized clothing is not only a trend, but also I find it to be flattering if styled the right way (This is coming from someone who is 5’4 haha!), which is the inspiration behind today’s post. I’m going to talk about why you should invest in oversized pieces and how to look good when you do.
Why You Should invest in Oversized Clothes
-
Comfortable
-
Accessible
-
Trendy
Buying a larger size in clothes definitely has an effect on the overall aesthetic of your outfit. I believe that trying out this trend is a simple trick to make your wardrobe more interesting while getting the most bang for your buck. Plus, oversized clothes are just cozy!
How to Style
[Style Focus] Oversized Outerwear
I went to a JBrand sample sale and found this oversized, reversible denim jacket that I absolutely love. My tip for any large and loose-fitting coats, jackets or any other outwear pieces is to wear a cropped or fitted shirt on top and skinny jeans on bottom so that the jacket doesn’t overpower or hide your shape.
[Style Focus] Oversized Top
Big doesn’t have to mean bulky. Styling oversized shirts can be done by what I like to call the two T’s – tie and tuck (try saying that 5 times fast haha). I usually go for the half-tuck, but you can play around with this, whether that means tucking your shirt all the way in or just in the front, do what feels good to you. If you don’t want to tuck your shirt, you can tie it. The point of these techniques is, again, to define your silhouette.
[Style Focus] Oversized All Over
Just because you’re wearing oversized pieces on top, doesn’t mean you have to wear fitted pieces on bottom and vice versa. I think it’s perfectly okay to wear baggy clothing all over! The trick here, is to put the focus on your shoes and accessories to define your silhouette. If you’re wearing a boxy fit from head to toe, I suggest wearing a fanny pack, belt or chunky-heeled shoes to help outline your shape.
Well folks, that’s all I have for this post. I hope it was helpful and inspired you to buy a size up next time you go shopping. What do you think about oversized clothing? Leave a comment and let’s discuss! Until next time.
