Dose of Prose

Winter solstice has begun, which means it’s finally time to break out your warm pieces to protect yourself from the cooler climate. A staple in my winter wardrobe is a sweater (mocknecks, crewnecks, turtlenecks, pullovers and anything else in between). One of my favorite types of sweaters is a turtleneck, however, because it’s so classic, versatile and truly accentuates an outfit, especially when paired with the right outerwear (coats, jackets, cardigans, etc.). Today’s post is a winter lookbook featuring some on trend sweater and outerwear combinations to try this season.

Trend: Heritage
Style Focus [turtlenecks]

Heritage patterns are huge this winter and come in a variety of styles and proportions. The coats I featured here have a houndstooth pattern, one made of a thicker wool material and the other of lighter polyester material. I selected plain, basic turtlenecks that would further accentuate the colors in the heritage patterns. I suggest you apply this logic to any other accessory you add if you try this look – meaning any hat, scarf, gloves, etc. you pair with this look should align with the same color palette that’s within the heritage pattern of your coat.

Trend: Puffer
Style Focus [layering]

Not only do puffer coats keep you warm, but also they are great for layering during the winter months. The puffer is my go-to this season because it’s so easy to style and throw on when you’re rushing out the door. The puffer featured below has a hoodie built inside of it, which adds a casual feel to the coat. To make the look more effortless, I added a beanie and continued the grayscale theme with a mockneck sweater and jeans.

Trend: Knit
Style Focus [asymmetry]

You can’t ever go wrong with knits, because they serve as a great transition piece from fall to winter. The asymmetrical line of the knit cardigan I’m wearing really adds dimension to my turtleneck and brings out its patterns. Also, this probably goes without saying, but the thickness of the knit is so warm and cozy!

I hope this lookbook gave you some ideas and inspo for the winter months. Which look was your favorite? Let me know in the comments below! If you decide to try any of these combos, snap a pic of your outfit and tag me on Instagram! I would love to see and share it with everyone. I’ll catch you in my next post.
